Ayr rolls over Delhi, 6-2

The Ayr Centennials had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Delhi Travellers.

Ayr got the win thanks to a great game by Brett Gibson, who had one goal and three assists. Gibson scored 13:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Brandon Christopher assisted on the tally.

The Centennials forced Travellers' goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Nick Heath made 10 stops and Joe Drexler made 15. Ayr found itself short handed often, totaling 44 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Ayr also got points from Christopher, who also had two goals and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Adam Fisher as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Jordan Eby, who had three and Jimmy Roy, Alex Bogojevski, Nathan Redford, and Brady Wheelans, who each chipped in one.

Delhi's offense operated below it season average. The Travellers put an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game.

Delhi was led by Jamie Newell, who registered one goal and one assist. Newell scored on the power play 15:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Travellers had gained a power play chance when Alex Mutton was whistled for kneeing. Taylor Hockley picked up the assist. Colin VanDale also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Derek Friesen and Rick Fergus, who contributed one a piece.

Mitch Figueirdo made 27 saves for the Centennials on 29 shots. Ayr registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Delhi incurred 46 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Travellers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and VanDale was ejected from the game.
