Tavistock squeaks by Ayr, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Tavistock Braves escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Ayr Centennials.

Tavistock gained the winning advantage on a goal by Andrew Schacht 10:44 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Schacht was all over the ice for the Braves, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win.

Tavistock pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Braves excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

Tavistock also got points from Mac Kalbfleisch, who also had two goals and two assists. Tavistock also got a goal from Derek Cowing as well. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Matthew Lupton, who had one.

Ayr's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Tavistock power plays. The Centennials' offense operated below they season average. Ayr averages 5.3 goals per game.

The Centennials were led by Brett Gibson, who tallied two goals and one assist. Gibson scored the first of his two goals at 7:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jordan Eby picked up the assist. Gibson's next tally made the score 2-1 Ayr with 6:09 left in the first period. Brandon Christopher provided the assist. Ayr additionally got points from Christopher, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Ayr came via Dustin Scheer, who had one.

Tim Parker rejected 25 shots on goal for Tavistock. Bobby Brown made 24 saves for Ayr on 29 shots. The Centennials ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Ayr ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Richard was ejected from the game.
