Wellesley erases deficit to stun Ayr, 4-3

The Ayr Centennials could not hold down the Wellesley Applejacks, and Applejacks erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Wellesley never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Applejacks was down 3-1 after a power play goal by Ayr's Brandon Christopher at 11:44 in the second period. Wellesley knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Reid Denstedt at 8:06 in the third period. The Applejacks got the game winner at 17:39 in the third period on a goal by Denstedt.

Wellesley got the win behind a great game by Luke Rose, who had two goals and one assist. Rose scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:27 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Applejacks earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Eby was put in the box for high sticking. Mark Detzler provided the assist. Rose's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Ayr with 16:58 left in the third period. Tyler Eckert picked up the assist.

Wellesley struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Wellesley also got points from Devon Wagner, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Troy Williams and Corey Way, who each chipped in one.

The Centennials were held below their usual level of production. Ayr puts an average of 5.4 pucks into the net per game. The Centennials forced the Applejacks goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Ayr also got a goal from Adam Fisher as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Declan Kaster, Brett Gibson, Jimmy Roy, Logan Beechey, and Alex Richard, who contributed one a piece.

Wellesley's Heer stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Applejacks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Mitch Figueirdo rejected 15 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
