Hagersville beats Tavistock 4-2 after comeback scare

The Tavistock Braves tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Hagersville Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Derek Medeiros put Hagersville up 4-1 in the third period, but Tavistock pulled to within two on Dylan Yantzi's tally 1:45 into the third period.

The Braves' power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Hagersville stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 36 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Hagersville was helped by Eric Drehmer, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Drehmer scored 16:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. Hayden Baird picked up the assist. Hagersville additionally got points from Baird, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Medeiros, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hagersville also got a goal from Nick Halliday as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Jesse Ross, Mitch Green, Cole Martin, and Kyle Sault, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks were unable to stop the Braves from sending pucks towards the net, and Tavistock eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Andrew Schacht also scored for Tavistock. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Mack Gingerich and Curtis Dotzert, who each chipped in one.

Mitch Knight rejected 32 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Tim Parker recorded 25 saves for the Braves. Tavistock incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Braves, Brandon Kalbfleisch and Garrett Fisher were ejected from the contest.
