Mt.Brydges uses shootout to best Lucan, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs defeated the Lucan Irish in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 18 attempts between both teams. Lucan got a shootout goal from Dylan Murray. In addition to the clincher, Mt.Brydges got a shootout goal from Grant Johns.

The Bulldogs overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mt.Brydges was down 2-1 after a goal by the Irish's Mitch Morin at 14:39 in the second period. The Bulldogs tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cameron Dewan at 17:05 in the third period.

Mt.Brydges forced Lucan goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Bulldogs were helped by Robert Mapes, who finished with one goal. Mapes scored 3:28 into the second period to make the score 1-1. More assists for Mt.Brydges came via Robert McTaggart, who had one.

The Irish's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Mt.Brydges power plays. Lucan could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Irish average 4.1 goals per game. Mt.Brydges was unable to stop Lucan from sending pucks towards the net, and the Irish eventually piled up 55 shots on goal. Lucan was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 32 penalty minutes.

The Irish were helped by Colin Hartwick, who had one goal. Hartwick scored on the power play 5:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lucan. A high sticking penalty on Johns had put Lucan on the power play. Wes Huston provided the assist. In addition, Lucan received assists from Mitch Smith and Colin Nancekivell, who each chipped in one.

Eric Steinman recorded 53 saves for the Bulldogs. Mt.Brydges incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Dylan Hoover made 33 saves for the Irish on 35 shots. Lucan registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Irish ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Bond was ejected from the game.
