Lucan holds on for 7-5 win against North Middlesex

The Lucan Irish survived a determined comeback attempt by the North Middlesex Stars on the way to a 7-5 win.

Lucan made the score 6-1 on a goal by Keiron Cobban at 9:20 in the second period, and North Middlesex got as close as 6-4 when Zak MacNaught scored 7:27 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:45 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The Stars were unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. The Irish surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Lucan averages 4.2 goals per game.

The Irish were led by Mitch Smith, who grabbed three goals. Lucan additionally got points from Cobban, who also had one goal and one assist. Lucan also got a goal from Wes Huston as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Colin Nancekivell, who had two and Cullen Harper, Mathew Smallman, and Dylan Moss, who contributed one a piece.

North Middlesex's offense rang up 48 shots on Lucan's net. The Stars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. North Middlesex has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Stars were helped by Tommy Prokes, who tallied one goal. Prokes scored 14:15 into the third period to make the score 7-5 Lucan. Greg Masschelein picked up the assist. Josh DenOtter also scored for North Middlesex. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Jeremy Vandeven and Cody Wuytenburg, who each chipped in one.

The Irish's Dylan Hoover stopped 43 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Lucan totaled 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Irish, Nick Moniz and Smallman were ejected from the contest. Alex Foster made 53 saves for North Middlesex on 60 shots. The Stars totaled 46 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Team's Brock Pinnell and Vandeven were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
