Lucan vanquishes Lambeth in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Lambeth Arena Sun, Nov 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lucan Irish defeated the Lambeth Lancers in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Lambeth's shootout goal was scored by Tanner Smith. Lucan's other shootout goal was scored by Mitch Morin.The Irish saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Lucan made the score 5-3 on a goal by Wes Huston at 2:20 in the third period. The Lancers evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Smith at 19:03 in the third period. The Irish pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. Lucan kept Lambeth's goalie busy throughout the game, and JP Trudell made 40 saves on 46 shots. Lucan also got a goal from Mitch Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Colin Hartwick, who had three and Shane Goentner, Colin Nancekivell, and Dylan Murray, who each chipped in one. The Lancers' offense rang up 44 shots on the Irish's net. Lambeth's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Lancers average 2.4 goals allowed per game. Lambeth was helped by Cleo Gubbels, who racked up two goals. Gubbels scored the first of his two goals at 14:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Lambeth. Nick West picked up the assist. Gubbels' next tally made the score 5-4 Lucan with 16:43 left in the third period. The Lancers had gotten the advantage when Lucan's Huston was sent off for slashing. Justin Clark provided the assist. Lambeth additionally got points from Brandon Robbins, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Mike Golinowski, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Lambeth received assists from Warren Hargraves, who had two and Conor Chilvers and Riley Gilmore, who contributed one a piece. Joseph Frustaglio recorded 39 saves for the Irish. Lucan registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Lambeth incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
