Wellesley beats Burford 6-1 as Williams gets hat trick

The Burford Bulldogs could not stop the Wellesley Applejacks' Troy Williams, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-1 win.

Williams notched his first tally 9:28 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:22 into the second and at 10:56 into the second.

Burford was stymied by Wellesley netminder Josh Heer, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Heer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.2 entering the contest.

The Applejacks stifled the Bulldogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wellesley additionally got points from Luke Rose, who also registered one goal and one assist. Shawn Fitzpatrick also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Corey Way, who had three, Mark Detzler and Coleton Madge, who each chipped in one, and Reid Denstedt, Cody Tapsell, and Devon Wagner, who contributed two a piece.

Burford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bulldogs put an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game. Burford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Bulldogs were led by Jim Salatas, who scored the team's only goal. Salatas scored 1:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford. Tyler Vandenbussche assisted on the tally.

Wellesley totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-15 on the power play. Team's Derek Lebold and Taylor Doering were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Burford's starting goalie, Don Davis, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ben Beechey, who stopped zero shots. The Bulldogs registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
