Lambeth uses big games from Morningstar and Thomas to down Thamesford, 8-2

Behind two goals and two assists from Dale Morningstar and one goal and one assist from Mitch Thomas, the Lambeth Lancers downed the Thamesford Trojans 8-2.

Morningstar scored the first of his two goals at 6:06 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lambeth. Morningstar's next tally made the score 8-2 Lambeth with 2:36 left in the second period. Lambeth earned a power play opportunity when Jake Tierney was put in the box for roughing. Thomas picked up the assist. Thomas scored on the power play 11:57 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Lambeth. The Lancers had gotten the advantage when Thamesford's Mike Chappell was sent off for slashing. Morningstar provided the assist.

The Trojans' 12 penalties came back to haunt them, as Thamesford let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Lambeth made Trojans' goalies to work in net, racking up 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. James Champagne made 27 stops and Grayson Templeman made five. The Lancers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Lambeth averages 5.4 goals per contest. The Lancers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Lambeth finished with 56 penalty minutes.

Lambeth additionally got points from Ryan Pennington, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Thomas, who also had one goal and one assist. Lambeth also had goals scored by Cleo Gubbels, who had two and Brandon Robbins and Mitch Furlonger, who each put in one. More assists for Lambeth came via Kale Corbeth, who had two and Nick North, Mike Golinowski, Warren Hargraves, and Conor Chilvers, who each chipped in one.

The Trojans could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Thamesford averages 4.9 goals per game. The Trojans forced the Lancers goalie JP Trudell to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Thamesford was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 16 chances. The Trojans could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Thamesford was led by Kyle Walker, who finished with two goals. Walker scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Trojans had gained a power play chance when Riley Gilmore was whistled for hooking. Ben Kirwin picked up the assist. Walker's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Lambeth with 16:40 left in the second period. Thamesford had taken the advantage when Lambeth's Pennington got sent off for cross checking. James Toye provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Thamesford were Andrew McLennan, who had one.

Trudell recorded 30 saves for the Lancers. The Trojans ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Beau Diloreto was ejected from the game.
