Huge game by Eckert boosts Wellesley over Delhi, 8-2

Tyler Eckert was all over the ice for the Wellesley Applejacks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Wellesley's 8-2 win over the Delhi Travellers.

Eckert scored at 18:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley and again while 18:36 into the third to make the score 8-2 Wellesley.

The Applejacks made Delhi's netminders to work all game long, taking 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Nick Heath made 24 stops and Joe Drexler made five. Wellesley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Travellers to score on any of their three power plays. The Applejacks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wellesley averages 4.5 goals per game.

Wellesley also got points from Cody Tapsell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Corey Way, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Jake Ariss also scored for Wellesley. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Troy Williams and Patrick Wiejak, who contributed one a piece and Shawn Fitzpatrick and Luke Rose, who each chipped in two.

Delhi managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. The Travellers ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Delhi could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Travellers average 4.3 goals per game.

Delhi was led by Travis Harper, who had one goal. Harper scored 18:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Taylor Hockley picked up the assist. Delhi also got a goal from Colin Streutker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Brad Ward, who had one.

Josh Heer took the win and made 19 saves before being replaced by Corey Tuffnail who made five saves. The Applejacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
