Alvinston penalty kill dominates in 6-3 defeat of North MiddlesexBrooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Nov 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The North Middlesex Stars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and Alvinston shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3. Alvinston was paced by DJ Sapone, who finished with one goal. Sapone scored 15:26 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Alvinston. Troy Whitely assisted on the tally. Alvinston kept North Middlesex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Swartzentruber made 45 saves on 51 shots. Team could not crack the Stars' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Alvinston additionally got points from Tyler Kettler, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Joe Archer, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dylan Lightfoot, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Cody Perriam as well. More assists for Alvinston came via Kyle Cutler, who had two and Davis Triest and Karsten Berg, who each chipped in one. The North Middlesex penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Stars surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. North Middlesex was helped by Zak MacNaught, who registered one goal. MacNaught scored on the power play 19:35 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Alvinston. The Stars earned a power play opportunity when Lightfoot was put in the box for tripping. Greg Masschelein provided the assist. North Middlesex also got points from Mike Sharpe, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ben Lawton also scored for North Middlesex. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Tommy Prokes and Cody Wuytenburg, who contributed one a piece. James Morreau rejected 23 shots on goal for Alvinston. Alvinston ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. Team's Dawson Elviage and Perriam were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. North Middlesex registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Stars, Michael Quinn, Alex Davis, Wuytenburg, and Jordan Drury were ejected from the contest.
