Mt.Brydges holds on for 3-2 win against Port Stanley

The Port Stanley Sailors tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Jeremy Denomme put Mt.Brydges up 3-0 in the third period, but Port Stanley pulled to within one on Mark Fraser's tally 15:18 into the third period.

Denomme had two goals and one assist to lead the Bulldogs. Denomme scored the first of his two goals at 1:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mt.Brydges. Ryan Battersby picked up the assist. Denomme's next tally made the score Mt.Brydges with 15:10 left in the third period. Mike Frizzell assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:04 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Mt.Brydges excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bulldogs forced the Sailors goalie Ricky Corkum to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Mt.Brydges also got a goal from Tony Lindner as well. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Mitch Rowse and Sean Candler, who contributed one a piece.

Port Stanley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mt.Brydges to score on any of its five power plays. The Sailors could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Port Stanley puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Sailors' offense rang up 41 shots on the Bulldogs' net.

Luke McGuire also scored for Port Stanley. More assists for Port Stanley came via Tanner Turley, Zak Jukna, Tyler Beaulieu, and Trevor Smith, who each chipped in one.

Eric Steinman rejected 39 shots on goal for Mt.Brydges. The Bulldogs ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Mt.Brydges, Spencer Wilson was ejected from the game. Ricky Corkum made 40 saves for Port Stanley on 43 shots. The Sailors ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Port Stanley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Finlay was ejected from the game.
