Tavistock rolls over Norfolk, 7-1

The Tavistock Braves had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Norfolk Rebels.

Tavistock was paced by Mac Kalbfleisch, who tallied one goal and one assist. Kalbfleisch scored 12:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock. Derek Cowing provided the assist.

The Braves made Norfolk's netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Jason Miller made 35 stops and Alex Tipping made zero. Tavistock excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Braves found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Tavistock averages 3.6 goals per contest.

Tavistock also got points from Cowing, who also had one goal and two assists, Josh Wagler, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jordan Ritsma, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Charlie Malson also scored for Tavistock. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were James McCorquodale, who had two and Brandon Kalbfleisch, Charlie Irwin, and Dylan Yantzi, who each chipped in one.

The Rebels put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Braves to score on any of their 11 power plays. Norfolk could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 56 minutes in penalties during the game.

Norfolk also got a goal from Nate Parker as well. In addition, Norfolk received assists from Clayton Charot and Kevin Mummery, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor VanBockel made 16 saves for Tavistock on 17 shots. The Braves incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Rebels, Ryan Oatway was ejected from the game.
