Wellesley rips Burford, 8-2

The Burford Bulldogs had trouble finding ways to stop the Wellesley Applejacks, which beat Bulldogs, 8-2.

Taylor Doering was all over the ice for Wellesley, as he finished with two goals in the win. Doering scored on the power play at 6:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley and again while 17:58 into the first to make the score 3-0 Wellesley.

The Applejacks made Burford's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 35 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ben Beechey made 15 stops and Don Davis made 12. Wellesley found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Applejacks have scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Wellesley was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 10 man advantages.

Wellesley additionally got points from Troy Williams, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Cody Tapsell, who also had one goal and two assists, Luke Rose, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tyler Eckert, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Shawn Fitzpatrick also scored for Wellesley. More assists for Wellesley came via Connor McLeod, who had two, Corey Way, who had three, and Mark Detzler, Steve Tait, Reid Denstedt, and Coleton Madge, who contributed one a piece.

The Bulldogs' offense operated below they season average. Burford averages 5.6 goals per game. The Bulldogs forced the Applejacks goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Burford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Bulldogs were led by Jim Salatas, who tallied one goal and one assist. Salatas scored on the power play 11:32 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Wellesley. Burford earned a power play opportunity when Eckert was put in the box for hooking. JJ Haroland assisted on the tally. Burford also got a goal from Kyle Chaney as well. In addition, Burford received assists from Pat Bates, who had one.

Heer recorded 47 saves for Wellesley. The Applejacks incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Bulldogs registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
