Dorchester blows out Port Stanley, 7-2

The Dorchester Dolphins were firing on all cylinders against the Port Stanley Sailors, and when the final buzzer sounded Dolphins emerged with a 7-2 win.

Shayne Rhyno had two goals and one assist to lead Dorchester. Rhyno scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dorchester. The Dolphins had gained a power play chance when Luke McGuire was whistled for high sticking. Brendon O Shaughnessy assisted on the tally. Rhyno's next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 Dorchester with 19 seconds left in the second period. Dorchester earned a power play opportunity when Tyson Corkum was put in the box for slashing. O Shaughnessy provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:19 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Dolphins forced Port Stanley's goalies to work in net, totaling 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Brandon Garner made 21 stops and Ricky Corkum made 11. Dorchester bested its season scoring average. The Dolphins average 4.5 goals per game. Dorchester cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances.

Dorchester additionally got points from Brett VanDusen, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jacob Baribeau, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and O Shaughnessy, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dorchester also got a goal from Connor McKay as well. In addition, Dorchester received assists from Matt Johnson, who had two and Brady Veroughstraete, Tyler Vere, and Connor Lovell, who each chipped in one.

The Sailors were held below their usual level of production. Port Stanley puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game.

The Sailors were helped by Graham Silcox, who finished with one goal and one assist. Silcox scored on the power play 11:58 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Dorchester. A high sticking penalty on Patrick Freel had put Port Stanley on the power play. McGuire assisted on the tally. Port Stanley also got points from McGuire, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Tyler Beaulieu, who had two.

Jake Fonti recorded 23 saves for the Dolphins. Dorchester ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Team's Jordan Fuller and Tyler Blue were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Sailors totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Port Stanley, Tanner Turley and Ryan McDonnell were ejected from the contest.
