Burford beats Hagersville 4-3 after comeback scare

The Hagersville Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Burford Bulldogs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Tyler MacLaughlin put Burford up 4-2 in the third period, but Hagersville pulled to within one on Brad Hornby's tally 19:02 into the third period.

The Hawks' power play was ineffective against the Bulldogs' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Burford had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Burford additionally got points from Jim Salatas, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Chaney also scored for Burford. In addition, Burford received assists from Eric Lucente, Pat Bates, Tyler Vandenbussche, JJ Haroland, Guy Polillo, and Peter Janeck, who contributed one a piece.

Hagersville forced the Bulldogs goalie Don Davis to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in Burford's zone, and came away with two goals. Hagersville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hagersville also got a goal from Cole Martin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Derek Medeiros, who had two and Nick Halliday, Dan Stewart, Jacob Brown, and Jesse Ross, who each chipped in one.

Davis recorded 30 saves for the Bulldogs. Burford ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Bulldogs, Blaise Burtnick was ejected from the game. The Hawks' Justin Paccheco stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Hagersville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hayden Baird was ejected from the game.
