Delhi wins tough contest against Tavistock, 6-4SOJHL Sun, Nov 04, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Delhi Travellers escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Tavistock Braves. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Colin Streutker secured the win for Delhi with a goal in the second period. With three goals and two assists between them, Derek Friesen and Josh Bradshaw teamed up to power the Travellers' offense. Friesen finished with one goal and two assists and Bradshaw also added two goals. Delhi's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Tavistock power plays. The Travellers kept Tavistock's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor VanBockel made 26 saves on 32 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Delhi additionally got points from Streutker, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Jordan Belanger also scored for Delhi. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Harrison McRobert and Taylor Hockley, who each chipped in one. The Braves' offense rang up 33 shots on Delhi's net. Tavistock was led by Mack Gingerich, who registered two goals. Gingerich scored the first of his two goals at 39 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. Charlie Malson assisted on the tally. Gingerich's next tally made the score 5-4 Delhi with 13:05 left in the third period. Malson picked up the assist. Tavistock also got points from Derek Cowing, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tavistock also got a goal from Mac Kalbfleisch as well. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Curtis Dotzert, who had two. The Travellers' Joe Drexler stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Delhi incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Braves incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
