Grimsby beats Hagersville 11-1 as Paonessa gets hat trick

Daniel Paonessa lifted Grimsby to an 11-1 victory with a hat trick against the Hagersville Hawks.

Paonessa got on the scoresheet 3:16 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:01 into the second and at 15:36 into the second.

Grimsby forced Hagersville's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 39 shots and forcing 28 saves. Justin Paccheco made five stops and Tommy Accordal AP made 23. Grimsby got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Grimsby also got points from ZaK McQuade, who also registered one goal and one assist, Richard Recchia, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Robert Wormald, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Andrew Kolodzey, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included Cooper Naugoris, who had one and Colin Wierts, who had three. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Luca Petriello, Aidan McCreadie, Stuart Isnor, Jacob Tuck, Daulton Procyshn, and Jarrod Peacock, who each chipped in one and Colin Isnor, Jordan McCarl, and Curtis Jacques, who contributed two a piece.

The Hawks' offense operated below they season average. Hagersville puts an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Hawks were led by Jesse Ross, who scored the team's only goal. Ross scored on the power play 8:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby. An interference penalty on Isnor had put Hagersville on the power play. Aleck Boyd provided the assist.

Jeremy Currie made 19 saves for Grimsby on 20 shots. Grimsby incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Hawks totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Hagersville, Ryan McLaren was ejected from the game.
