Exeter uses shootout to best Lucan, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Exeter Hawks defeated the Lucan Irish in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.

Lucan's power play was ineffective against Exeter's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Hawks forced the Irish goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Exeter was helped by Jake Currie, who grabbed one goal. Currie scored 8:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Exeter. Chiristopher Pfaff picked up the assist. Exeter also had goals scored by Kalvin Thornton, who had one and Matthew McLellan, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Trevor Thornton, who had two and Wesley McGovern and Cam Jude, who each chipped in one.

Lucan stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Exeter was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Irish were helped by Matt Curtis, who racked up one goal. Curtis scored on the power play 17:38 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Lucan had taken the advantage when the Hawks' McGovern got sent off for kneeing. Wes Huston assisted on the tally. Lucan also got points from Huston, who also had one goal and one assist. Cullen Harper also scored for Lucan. More assists for Lucan came via Mitch Read and Mike Hisey, who contributed one a piece and Colin Nancekivell and Keiron Cobban, who each chipped in two.

Bryan Paolotto rejected 31 shots on goal for Exeter. The Hawks totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Exeter ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Consitt was ejected from the game. Hoover recorded 36 saves for the Irish. Lucan ended with 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Irish, Colin Hartwick was ejected from the game.
