Port Stanley squeaks by North Middlesex, 5-4North Middlesex Arena Sun, Oct 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Port Stanley Sailors escaped with a 5-4 victory over the North Middlesex Stars. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Tyler Beaulieu's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Luke McGuire had two goals and two assists to lead Port Stanley. McGuire scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Stanley. The Sailors earned a power play opportunity when Cody Wuytenburg was put in the box for interference. Beaulieu provided the assist. McGuire's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Port Stanley with 1:45 left in the second period. Tanner Turley picked up the assist. North Middlesex's power play was ineffective against Port Stanley's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Sailors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Port Stanley additionally got points from Taylor McArthur, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Tyson Corkum, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Beaulieu, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Mark Brisson and Trevor Smith, who each chipped in one. The Stars struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 50 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. North Middlesex was led by Chris Waack, who registered one goal and one assist. Waack scored 2:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Middlesex. Michael Quinn provided the assist. Trevor Perrie also scored for North Middlesex. More assists for North Middlesex came via Jake Alkins and Zak MacNaught, who contributed one a piece. Port Stanley's Ricky Corkum stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Ryley Bonk took the loss and made 22 saves before being replaced by Matt Lockwood who made one save.
