Port Stanley squeaks by Lucan, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Port Stanley Sailors escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Lucan Irish.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tyson Corkum at 7:25 of the third period.

Port Stanley got the win on the strength of a great game by Tyler Beaulieu, who had one goal and two assists. Beaulieu scored 19:27 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Port Stanley. Drew Eaton picked up the assist.

Lucan's power play was ineffective against the Sailors' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:03 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Port Stanley penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Sailors surpassed its season average of 32.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Stanley's offense rang up 47 shots on the Irish's net. The Sailors had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 12 chances.

Taylor McArthur also scored for Port Stanley. More assists for Port Stanley came via Graham Silcox, Dan Gordon, Luke McGuire, and Taylor Schram, who each chipped in one.

Lucan racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The Irish had been averaging 30.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lucan forced Port Stanley goalie Brandon Garner to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Irish were helped by Wes Huston, who had one goal. Huston scored on the power play 10:05 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A roughing penalty on Ryan McDonnell had put Lucan on the power play. Matt Curtis assisted on the tally. Lucan also got a goal from Nick Moniz as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Mike Hisey, Mathew Smallman, and Keiron Cobban, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Garner made 34 saves for the Sailors on 36 shots. Team's McDonnell and McGuire were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Irish's Dylan Hoover stopped 43 shots out of the 46 that he faced. For Lucan, Mitch Morin and Colin Hartwick were ejected from the contest.
