SOJHL     Sat, Oct 20, 2012

The Dorchester Dolphins' Brendon O Shaughnessy scored 30 seconds into overtime to beat the Exeter Hawks, 2-1 (OT).

Dorchester was led by goalie Jake Fonti, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Fonti managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.74 prior to the game.

Exeter's power play was ineffective against the Dolphins' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:00 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Dorchester put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hawks to score on any of their 10 power plays. The Dolphins did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Dorchester puts an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. Exeter was unable to stop the Dolphins from sending pucks towards the net, and Dorchester eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Dolphins' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Dorchester finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Matt Cormier also scored for Dorchester. In addition, Dorchester received assists from Liam Gillooly, who had one and Chris Buckholz, who had two.

The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Dorchester power plays. Exeter was held below its usual level of production. The Hawks average 3.5 goals per game. Exeter forced the Dolphins goalie Fonti to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Hawks were led by Wesley McGovern, who scored the team's only goal. McGovern scored 10:35 into the second period to make the score 1-1. John Kingma provided the assist.

Team's Connor McKay and Tyler Blue were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Bryan Paolotto made 47 saves for Exeter on 49 shots. The Hawks ended with 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and two majors. For Exeter, Alex Deluce and Dan Lawson were ejected from the contest.
