Burford rips Norfolk, 12-0

The Burford Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders against the Norfolk Rebels, and when the final buzzer sounded Bulldogs emerged with a 12-0 win.

Jim Salatas was a peerless playmaker for Burford, as he dished out four to beat Norfolk,.

The Bulldogs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 63 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Burford put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rebels to score on any of their 10 power plays. The Bulldogs' defense was surprisingly good. Burford averages 2.6 goals allowed per game. The Bulldogs forced Norfolk goalie Alex Tipping to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Burford bested its season scoring average. The Bulldogs average 6.2 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Burford additionally got points from Tyler Vandenbussche, who also registered one goal and two assists, JJ Haroland, who also had one goal and one assist, Nick Longhurst, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jesse Brooks, who also had one goal and one assist, Michael Thomlison, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Adam Harris, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Burford included Pat Bates, who had two and Kyle Chaney, Guy Polillo, Nathan Boyle, and Tommy Smith, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Jeff Chulo, Peter Janeck, and Casey Roberts, who each chipped in one.

The Rebels racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 36.0 minutes per game Norfolk had been spending in the box. The Rebels' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in six goals to Burford's power play unit.

Ben Beechey recorded 18 saves for the Bulldogs. For Burford, Chaney and Salatas were ejected from the contest. Alex Tipping made 37 saves for Norfolk on 49 shots. Team's Kevin Mummery and Dylan Heaslip were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
