Smith nets hat trick, leads Lucan to 4-2 win over Mt.BrydgesSOJHL Sat, Oct 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Mitch Smith lifted the Lucan Irish to a 4-2 victory with a hat trick against the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs. Smith got on the scoresheet 10:45 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:52 into the second and at 17:35 into the third.Lucan pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes. The Irish kept Mt.Brydges' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Steinman made 34 saves on 38 shots. Lucan also got points from Wes Huston, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Fraser Lewis, who had two and Mitch Morin and Keiron Cobban, who contributed one a piece. The Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Lucan power plays. Lucan was unable to stop Mt.Brydges from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Mt.Brydges was helped by Ryan Battersby, who grabbed one goal. Battersby scored on the power play 4:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mt.Brydges. The Bulldogs had gotten the advantage when the Irish's Dylan Murray was sent off for slashing. Connor Dunn assisted on the tally. Mt.Brydges also got a goal from Spencer Wilson as well. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Cameron Dewan, who had one. Dylan Hoover recorded 35 saves for Lucan. Mt.Brydges incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
