GAME RECAP

Ritsma's goals lift Tavistock to 4-1 victory over Hagersville

SOJHL     Fri, Oct 12, 2012

Jordan Ritsma had two goals to lead the Tavistock Braves to a 4-1 victory over the Hagersville Hawks.

Ritsma scored at 13:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock and again while 10:30 into the third to make the score 3-1 Tavistock.

Hagersville was stymied by Tavistock netminder Tim Porter, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Porter will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.43.

The Hawks' power play was ineffective against the Braves' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Tavistock stifled Hagersville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Braves forced the Hawks goalie Justin Paccheco to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Derek Cowing also scored for Tavistock. More assists for Tavistock came via Charlie Malson, Nick Quehl, and Josh Wagler, who contributed one a piece.

Hagersville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Tavistock to score on any of its five power plays. The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hagersville averages 3.3 goals per game. The Braves were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hagersville eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Hawks were led by Eric Drehmer, who scored the team's only goal. Drehmer scored 16:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Hayden Baird picked up the assist.

Tavistock incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Justin Paccheco made 37 saves for Hagersville on 40 shots. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
