Burford beats Delhi 8-5 as Vandenbussche gets hat trick

Tyler Vandenbussche lifted the Burford Bulldogs to an 8-5 victory with a hat trick against the Delhi Travellers.

Vandenbussche's first goal came 34 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 5:20 into the second and at 16:06 into the second.

Burford stifled Delhi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulldogs bested their season scoring average. Burford averages 5.9 goals per game.

Burford also got points from Michael Thomlison, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Burford also had goals scored by Peter Janeck, who had two and Jim Salatas and Adam Harris, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Guy Polillo, Nick Longhurst, Jesse Brooks, Ryan White, and Casey Roberts, who each chipped in one and Kyle Chaney, Pat Bates, and Tommy Smith, who contributed two a piece.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Travellers were led by Grant Gardiner, who racked up two goals. Gardiner scored the first of his two goals at 10:38 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Colin VanDale picked up the assist. Gardiner's next tally made the score 5-5 with 1:18 left in the second period. Jeremy Jacobs assisted on the tally. Delhi additionally got points from Jacobs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Travis Harper also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Harrison McRobert, who had two and Brad Hornby, Cody Stout, Jared Ebdon, Derek Friesen, and Jordan Belanger, who each chipped in one.

Don Davis made 25 saves for the Bulldogs on 30 shots. Burford incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nick Heath rejected 22 shots on goal for Delhi. The Travellers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
