Stephens leads Delhi to shutout victory over NorfolkSOJHL Sun, Oct 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Delhi Travellers used a sparkling performance by Alex Stephens to take down the Norfolk Rebels, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Delhi's 8-0 shutout victory. The Travellers got the win on the strength of a great game by Brad Hornby, who had two goals and one assist. Hornby scored the first of his two goals at 1:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Delhi. Brad Ward assisted on the tally. Hornby's next tally made the score 8-0 Delhi with 3:47 left in the third period. Delhi had taken the advantage when Norfolk's Dylan Heaslip got sent off for head contact. Taylor Hockley picked up the assist. The Travellers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Norfolk power plays. Delhi's offense rang up 44 shots on the Rebels' net. Delhi additionally got points from Harrison McRobert, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jeremy Jacobs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Jared Ebdon, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Derek Friesen, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Hockley, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Colin VanDale also scored for Delhi. In addition, Delhi received assists from Josh Bradshaw and Jamie Newell, who each chipped in one. Norfolk forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 18 minors and two majors for 76 minutes in penalty time. The Rebels had been averaging 36.0 minutes in penalties per game. Norfolk did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Rebels put an average of 2.1 pucks into the net per game. Stephens rejected 30 shots on goal for the Travellers. Delhi incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For the Travellers, Darren Pye was ejected from the game. Norfolk's Jason Miller stopped 36 shots out of the 44 that he faced. For the Rebels, Brayden Dickinson and Ricky Johnston were ejected from the contest.
