Lucan vanquishes Goderich in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lucan Irish defeated Goderich in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Lucan saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Irish made the score 4-2 on a goal by Jordan Vanderwel at 8:57 in the third period. Goderich evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Tom Bedour at 16:44 in the third period.

Lucan forced Goderich goalie Jaden Shrier to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Irish's power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on 16 chances.

Lucan was helped by Dylan Moss, who tallied two goals. Moss scored the first of his two goals at 8:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lucan. Mike Hisey picked up the assist. Moss' next tally made the score 3-1 Lucan with 4:31 left in the second period. Hisey provided the assist. Lucan also got a goal from Mitch Smith as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Riley Orchard and Dylan Symons, who contributed one a piece.

Goderich stifled the Irish's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Goderich's offense rang up 41 shots on Lucan's net. Goderich was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 52 penalty minutes.

Goderich was helped by Joseph Dykstra, who finished with two goals. Dykstra scored the first of his two goals at 2:00 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Lucan. Bedour picked up the assist. Dykstra's next tally made the score 4-3 Lucan with 7:09 left in the third period. Nick Gowing assisted on the tally. Goderich additionally got points from Bedour, who also registered two goals and one assist. More assists for Goderich came via Mack O Keefe, who had two.

Joseph Frustaglio made 37 saves for the Irish on 41 shots. Lucan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Shrier rejected 43 shots on goal for Goderich. Goderich registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
