Port Stanley uses early goal to top Dorchester, 2-1

Andrew Yurek gave the Port Stanley Sailors the lead in the first period, and the Dorchester Dolphins was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

A goal 4:15 into the the first period by Yurek proved to be the game winner, and powered Port Stanley to the victory Tyler Beaulieu picked up the assist.

Dorchester was stymied by the Sailors netminder Brandon Garner, who stopped 58 shots during the victory. Garner managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.0 prior to the game.

Port Stanley was led by Beaulieu, who finished with one goal and one assist. Beaulieu scored on the power play 14:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Stanley. The Sailors earned a power play opportunity when Chris Buckholz was put in the box for slashing. Cody Taggert provided the assist.

Port Stanley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dolphins to score on any of their five power plays. The Sailors were held below their usual level of production. Port Stanley puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game.

More assists for Port Stanley came via Graham Silcox and Drew Eaton, who each chipped in one.

Dorchester's offense operated below it season average. The Dolphins average 4.3 goals per game. The Sailors were unable to stop Dorchester from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dolphins eventually piled up 59 shots on goal.

Dorchester was led by Shayne Rhyno, who scored the team's only goal. Rhyno scored 19:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Stanley. Brett Dzyngel picked up the assist.

Port Stanley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jake Fonti made 21 saves for the Dolphins on 23 shots. Dorchester incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
