Exeter penalty kill dominates in 4-1 defeat of North Middlesex

The Exeter Hawks' penalty kill was superb, as Exeter survived multiple penalties to beat the North Middlesex Stars, 4-1.

The Hawks were led by Cam Jude, who finished with one goal. Jude scored 12:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Exeter. Kalvin Thornton picked up the assist.

Exeter's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six North Middlesex power plays. The Hawks kept North Middlesex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Bobby Raine made 47 saves on 51 shots. Exeter was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 29 penalty minutes.

Exeter additionally got points from Brodie Balcom, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Exeter also got a goal from Taylor Moir as well. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Alex Deluce, who had two and Trevor Thornton and Matthew McLellan, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars could not produce up to they normal offensive output. North Middlesex averages 3.4 goals per game. The Stars were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time.

North Middlesex was led by Zak MacNaught, who scored the team's only goal. MacNaught scored 10:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Spencer Kading assisted on the tally.

Bryan Paolotto rejected 23 shots on goal for the Hawks. Exeter registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's Devon Elliott, Balcom, and Dan Lawson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For the Stars, Mike Sharpe, Jake Alkins, and Connor Knapman were ejected from the contest.
