Port Stanley holds on for 7-5 win against Thamesford

The Port Stanley Sailors survived a determined comeback attempt by the Thamesford Trojans on the way to a 7-5 win.

Port Stanley made the score 7-4 on a goal by Tyson Corkum at 4:17 in the third period, and Thamesford got as close as 7-5 when Cody DiDomenico scored 12:32 into the third period.

The Trojans fell victim to a deadly the Sailors power play, which ripped Thamesford for four goals.

Port Stanley kept the Trojans' goalie busy throughout the game, and James Champagne made 28 saves on 35 shots. The Sailors outdid their season average for goals scored. Port Stanley averages 4.3 goals per game. The Sailors' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Port Stanley was helped by Luke McGuire, who racked up one goal and one assist. McGuire scored on the power play 1:01 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Port Stanley. Andrew Yurek assisted on the tally. Port Stanley additionally got points from Yurek, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Port Stanley also got a goal from Dan Gordon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Graham Silcox, who had four and Taylor McArthur, Conner Halonen, Josh Tremblay, and Dave Baker, who contributed one a piece.

The Sailors were unable to stop Thamesford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Trojans eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Thamesford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Trojans were led by Andrew McLennan, who tallied two goals and two assists. McLennan scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thamesford. Thamesford had gained a power play chance when Tremblay was whistled for slashing. Kyle Walker picked up the assist. McLennan's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Thamesford with 10:52 left in the first period. Adam Levine assisted on the tally. Thamesford also got points from Levine, who also finished with two goals and one assist. More assists for Thamesford came via Judson Couture, James Toye, and John Mattews, who each chipped in one.

Brandon Garner rejected 31 shots on goal for Port Stanley. The Sailors incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Trojans registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
