Delhi falls to Wellesley after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Wellesley Applejacks battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Delhi Travellers.

Wellesley let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Applejacks took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Connor McLeod at 41 seconds in the first period. Wellesley found itself down 3-1 after Delhi's Mike DeCoene put the puck home at 15:11 in the first period. After evening things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by McLeod at 13:58 in the second, the Applejacks got the game-winner from McLeod at 3:58 in the third period.

The Travellers were unable to stop Wellesley from sending pucks towards the net, and the Applejacks eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Team could not crack Delhi's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Wellesley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Michael Pollice also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Rob Hinschberger, who had two and Reid Denstedt, Devon Wagner, and Tyler Eckert, who contributed one a piece.

The Travellers were held below their usual level of production. Delhi puts an average of 5.9 pucks into the net per game. The Travellers kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 34 saves on 37 shots. Delhi could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 66 minutes in penalties during the game.

Delhi also got a goal from Brad Ward as well. In addition, Delhi received assists from Harrison McRobert, Travis Harper, Josh Meidema, and Jordan Belanger, who each chipped in one.

Alex Stephens recorded 28 saves for the Travellers. Delhi registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Jake Durrant and Belanger were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
