Exeter penalty kill dominates in 6-3 defeat of LucanSOJHL Wed, Sep 19, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Exeter Hawks were able to defeat the Lucan Irish, 6-3. Exeter made Lucan's goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. Joseph Frustaglio made 13 stops and Dylan Hoover made 13. The Hawks bested their season scoring average. This season, Exeter averages 3.0 goals per contest. The Hawks were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Exeter was helped by John Kingma, who finished with one goal. Kingma scored on the power play 4:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Exeter. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Cullen Harper was put in the box for head contact. Matthew McLellan picked up the assist. Exeter also got points from Kalvin Thornton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Exeter included Wesley McGovern, who had two and Trevor Thornton and Taylor Moir, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Devon Elliott and Mitch Wild, who contributed one a piece. Exeter was unable to stop the Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Lucan eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Irish were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Lucan was led by Mike Hisey, who tallied one goal. Hisey scored 17:35 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Exeter. Tyson Patrick assisted on the tally. Lucan also got a goal from Wes Huston as well. More assists for Lucan came via Mitch Smith, Riley Orchard, and Cam Bond, who each chipped in one. The Hawks' Bryan Paolotto stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Exeter incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The Irish incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
