Tavistock blows out Norfolk, 7-1SOJHL Sun, Sep 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Norfolk Rebels had trouble finding ways to stop the Tavistock Braves, which beat Rebels, 7-1. Tavistock's Tim Porter was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Porter will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. Norfolk's power play was ineffective against the Braves' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Tavistock kept the Rebels' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Miller made 54 saves on 61 shots. The Braves were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Tavistock had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 12 chances. The Braves were helped by Andrew Schacht, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Schacht scored on the power play 5:13 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock. Tavistock had taken the advantage when Norfolk's Steve Parker got sent off for head contact. Preston Connor assisted on the tally. Tavistock additionally got points from Connor, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mac Kalbfleisch, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Jarrod Malson AP also scored for Tavistock. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Jake Mock, who had two and Charlie Malson, Devon Kropf, and Josh Zehr, who each chipped in one. The Rebels were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 50 penalty minutes. In addition, Norfolk received assists from Nate Parker and Dylan Cole, who contributed one a piece. For the Braves, Angus Rowland AP was ejected from the game.
