Mooretown survives Alvinston comeback, wins 6-4

The Mooretown Flags came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Alvinston Flyers, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Mooretown led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Flags' Cody Hardman's scored on the power play at 17:12 in the second period to put Mooretown up 5-2.

The Flags got the win behind a great game by McGregor Haddon, who had two goals and one assist. Haddon scored the first of his two goals at 31 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mooretown. Dan Lumley picked up the assist. Haddon's next tally made the score 6-4 Mooretown with 1:57 left in the third period.

The Mooretown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 15 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Flags had been spending in the box. Mooretown bested its season scoring average. This season, the Flags average 3.5 goals per contest.

Mooretown also got points from Jeff Schroeter, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Travis Mullen, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Mooretown also got a goal from Jordan Orth as well. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Ryan Jennings, who had one.

Alvinston was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Mooretown was unable to stop Alvinston from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. Alvinston had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 13 chances.

The Flyers were helped by Karsten Berg, who grabbed one goal. Berg scored 2:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alvinston. Kirk Dorman provided the assist. Alvinston additionally got points from Tyler Kettler, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joe Archer, who also had one goal and one assist. Dylan Lightfoot also scored for Alvinston. More assists for Alvinston came via Dan Warner, who had two and Matt Carroll and Cody Perriam, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Johnson made 53 saves for the Flags on 57 shots. Mooretown registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Frankie White was ejected from the game. James Morreau took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Brad Jacklin who made eight saves. Team's Jake McPhail and Dorman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
