Essex's Hebert deadly on offense in 4-0 win against Alvinston

The Essex 73s relied on the scoring touch of Matthew Hebert, who netted two goals, to beat the Alvinston Flyers, 4-0.

Hebert found the back of the net 3:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and again while 3:47 into the second to make the score 3-0 Essex.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Essex forced Flyers' netminders to work in net, finishing with 52 shots and forcing 48 saves. Brad Jacklin made 23 stops and James Morreau made 25. The 73s stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Essex's defensive effort looked to be improved. The 73s average 2.3 goals allowed per game.

Essex also got a goal from Corey Beaulieu as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Adam Dunmore and Aaron Thibert, who contributed one a piece and Jordan Brohman and Dylan Solecki, who each chipped in two.

The Flyers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Alvinston had been spending in the box. The Flyers' offense operated below they season average. Alvinston puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game.

Trevor Wheaton made 23 saves for Essex on 23 shots. The 73s totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Essex, Daniel McIntyre was ejected from the game. The Flyers registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Alvinston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake McPhail was ejected from the game.
