Alvinston squeaks by Mooretown, 5-3Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Alvinston Flyers escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Mooretown Flags. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Kirk Dorman's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Dorman had a great game for Alvinston, netting two goals. The Flyers' offense rang up 40 shots on Mooretown's net. Others who scored for Alvinston included Troy Whitely, who had one and Tyler Kettler, who had two. More assists for Alvinston came via Matt Laberge, Dan Warner, Cody Perriam, Dylan Lightfoot, Jake McPhail, and Josh Moore, who each chipped in one and Joe Archer and Chad Vaneyk, who contributed two a piece. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Flags were led by Matt Brandon, who registered two goals and one assist. Brandon scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mooretown had taken the advantage when Alvinston's McPhail got sent off for cross checking. McGregor Haddon assisted on the tally. Brandon's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Alvinston with 9:39 left in the second period. Haddon provided the assist. Alec Rutherford also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Travis Mullen, who had one. James Morreau recorded 22 saves for the Flyers. Alvinston incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Brandon Johnson made 35 saves for the Flags on 40 shots. Mooretown incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
