Kingsville wins tough contest against Wallaceburg, 4-2

The game between the Kingsville Comets and the Wallaceburg Lakers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Kingsville emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Frank Desjardin at 18:58 of the second period.

The Comets' penalty kill excelled, as Kingsville gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Comets were led by Desjardin, who grabbed one goal.

Kingsville stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Comets' offense rang up 37 shots on the Lakers' net. Kingsville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kingsville additionally got points from Ryan Desjarlais, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kingsville also got a goal from Daniel Beaudion as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kingsville were Kyle Morand, who had two and Connor Rennie, Steven Spada, Mark Fratarcangeli, and Justin Parker, who each chipped in one.

Wallaceburg forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Lakers had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Comets were unable to stop Wallaceburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lakers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Wallaceburg was helped by Justin Whitson, who had one goal. Whitson scored 13:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jeff Nolfo picked up the assist. Scott Lubbers also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Lucais Meyskens, Ryan Chovich, and Brett Storr, who contributed one a piece.

Kingsville's Marcus Rees stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Comets registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Joel Sowinski made 33 saves for the Lakers on 37 shots. For Wallaceburg, Jake Carter was ejected from the game.
