Alvinston vanquishes Belle River in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alvinston Flyers defeated the Belle River Canadiens in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Alvinston saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Flyers made the score 2-0 on a goal by Joe Archer at 14:59 in the second period. Belle River evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Branden Larocque at 19:41 in the third period.

In the losing effort, the Canadiens were paced by Larocque, who grabbed two goals. Larocque scored the first of his two goals at 6:45 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Alvinston. Mark Manchurek provided the assist. Larocque's next tally made the score with 19 seconds left in the third period. Aidan Wiebenga assisted on the tally.

Alvinston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Flyers kept Belle River's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Cowell made 36 saves on 39 shots.

Alvinston also got a goal from Troy Whitely as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Tyler Kettler, Kirk Dorman, Kole Keating, and Chad Vaneyk, who each chipped in one.

The Canadiens stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Belle River forced the Flyers goalie Brad Jacklin to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

More assists for Belle River came via Mike Ditty and Chris DiNatale, who contributed one a piece.

Alvinston's Jacklin stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Canadiens incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
