Holmes' hat trick boosts Dresden over Wallaceburg, 9-1

Macks Holmes netted a hat trick to lead the Dresden Kings over the Wallaceburg Lakers, 9-1.

Holmes got on the scoresheet 15:27 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:07 into the first and at 4:01 into the second.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:58 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Dresden forced Wallaceburg's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Devine Cove made 15 stops and Joel Sowinski made 22. The Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lakers to score on any of their three power plays. Dresden outdid its season average for goals scored. The Kings average 3.5 goals per game.

Dresden also got points from Dylan Mertz, who also had one goal and two assists and Alex Schmidt, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jeremy Griffore also scored for Dresden. In addition, Dresden received assists from John Montgomery, Josh Beatty, Andrew France, Keith Maisonville, Jesse Allen, and Brent Paxton, who each chipped in one and Taylor Sisson, Wade Esselman, and Mike Myers, who contributed two a piece.

Wallaceburg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Lakers had been spending in the box. Wallaceburg could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Lakers average 3.1 goals per game.

Wallaceburg was led by Scott Lubbers, who scored the team's only goal. Lubbers scored 5:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Brennan Rainey picked up the assist.

Brent Paxton made 22 saves for Dresden on 23 shots. The Kings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Allen was ejected from the game. For the Lakers, Ryan Chovich was ejected from the game.
