Huge game by Lumley boosts Mooretown over Wallaceburg, 4-1

Behind a great game by Dan Lumley, who had one goal and two assists, the Mooretown Flags defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 4-1.

Lumley scored on the power play 5:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Mooretown earned a power play opportunity when Brett Storr was put in the box for holding. Andrew Sokol provided the assist. Lumley dished an assist on Sokol's goal that made the score 3-1 Mooretown at 11:20 into the second period. He added another helper on Jeff Schroeter's goal that made the score 4-1 Mooretown at 9:16 into the third period.

Wallaceburg was stymied by the Flags netminder Brandon Johnson, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. The solid play of Johnson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.74.

Mooretown stifled the Lakers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flags forced Wallaceburg goalie Devine Cove to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Mooretown also got points from Sokol, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Riley Roberts also scored for Mooretown. More assists for Mooretown came via McGregor Haddon, who had one and Mike Burns and Travis Mullen, who contributed two a piece.

The Lakers' offense operated below they season average. Wallaceburg puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Lakers' offense rang up 41 shots on Mooretown's net.

Wallaceburg was led by Brennan Rainey, who scored the team's only goal. Rainey scored 12:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Scott Lubbers assisted on the tally.

The Flags incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Devine Cove made 34 saves for the Lakers on 38 shots. Wallaceburg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
