Essex squeaks by Alvinston, 4-2

The Essex 73s and the Alvinston Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Essex made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Colin Moore's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Essex gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The 73s were led by Moore, who grabbed one goal. Moore scored 8:31 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Essex. Jordan Brohman picked up the assist.

Essex stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and James Morreau made 39 saves on 43 shots.

Alex Garon also scored for Essex. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Curtis Prymack, who had one and Daniel Slipchuck, who had two.

Alvinston forced Essex goalie Trevor Wheaton to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Flyers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Alvinston was helped by Connor MacKinnon, who finished with one goal. MacKinnon scored 17:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Essex. Matt Carroll provided the assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Jake McPhail as well. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Kole Keating, who had one and Cody Perriam, who had two.

Wheaton rejected 29 shots on goal for the 73s. Essex incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
