Whitson's hat trick boosts Wallaceburg over Dresden, 9-5

A hat trick by Justin Whitson was the highlight in Lakers' 9-5 win against the Dresden Kings.

Whitson's first goal came 44 seconds into the third period. He then added goals at 2:24 into the third and at 8:05 into the third.

The Wallaceburg Lakers forced Dresden's goalies to work without much rest, launching 36 shots and forcing 27 saves. Brent Paxton made 22 stops and Kaylobe Derynck made five. Wallaceburg found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Lakers average 3.3 goals per contest.

Wallaceburg also got points from Sam Jasmin, who also tallied three goals and one assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Brennan Rainey as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Trevor Williams, who had two, Bobby Domin, who had three, Jeff Nolfo, who had five, and Jeff Morey, Jordan Eagan, Robert Towsley, and Joel Sowinski, who contributed one a piece.

The Kings kept Wallaceburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sowinski made 50 saves on 55 shots. Dresden struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 27 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

The Kings were led by Jesse Allen, who racked up one goal and three assists. Allen scored short handed 8:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wallaceburg. Dresden played down a man on Johnathan Derynck's roughing. Cam Ross provided the assist. Dresden additionally got points from Derynck, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Dylan Mertz, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Andrew France, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Jeremy Griffore also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Jeff Vanrabaeys, John Montgomery, and Josh Beatty, who contributed one a piece.

The Lakers ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Wallaceburg, Towsley was ejected from the game. The Kings registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek VanEvery was ejected from the game.
