Belle River wins tough contest against Wallaceburg, 4-2

The Belle River Canadiens gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Wallaceburg Lakers.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by James Shelton at 12:39 of the third period.

Chris DiNatale had two goals to lead Belle River to victory. DiNatale found the back of the net 7:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 19:25 into the third to make the score 4-2 Belle River.

The Canadiens excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Belle River kept Wallaceburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joel Sowinski made 40 saves on 44 shots.

Belle River additionally got points from Derek Haskell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Mike Ditty, who had two and Andrew Synnott and Branden Larocque, who contributed one a piece.

The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Belle River power plays.

Wallaceburg was helped by Justin Whitson, who tallied one goal. Whitson scored 14:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Jeff Nolfo provided the assist. Kyle Havens also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Scott Lubbers, who had one.

Brandon Cowell made 19 saves for the Canadiens on 21 shots. Belle River incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Lakers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
