Belle River outlasts Dresden, 5-3

The game between the Belle River Canadiens and the Dresden Kings was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Belle River emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Donnovan Plummer at 10:11 of the third period.

Weston Gaul was all over the ice for the Canadiens, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Gaul scored at 5:04 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Belle River and again while 19:08 into the third to make the score 5-3 Belle River.

Dresden's power play was ineffective against Belle River's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Canadiens stifled the Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dresden was unable to stop Belle River from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadiens eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Belle River additionally got points from Plummer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Derek Haskell also scored for Belle River. In addition, Belle River received assists from Jordan Luciw, who had two and Branden Larocque, Mike Ditty, and Chris DiNatale, who each chipped in one.

The Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Belle River to score on any of its four power plays.

Dresden was helped by Mike Myers, who had one goal. Myers scored 6:27 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cody McPhail assisted on the tally. Dresden also got a goal from Taylor Sisson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Macks Holmes, who had one and Derek VanEvery, who had two.

The Canadiens' Brandon Cowell stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Belle River ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Canadiens, James Shelton was ejected from the game. Brent Paxton recorded 34 saves for the Kings. Dresden ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sisson was ejected from the game.
