Morreau stymies Wallaceburg, Alvinston wins 4-1

James Morreau stood on his head and made 41 saves to lead the Alvinston Flyers to a 4-1 victory over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Alvinston's penalty kill excelled, as the Flyers gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Alvinston was sparked by Tyler Kettler, who finished with one goal. Kettler scored 1:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. Chad Vaneyk assisted on the tally.

The Flyers made Lakers' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 38 shots and forcing 34 saves. Devine Cove made zero stops and Joel Sowinski made 34. Alvinston stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Alvinston also got points from Joe Archer, who also registered one goal and one assist and Karsten Berg, who also had one goal and one assist. Ryan Fraser also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Dylan Lightfoot, who had two.

The Lakers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. Wallaceburg surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Alvinston power plays. Wallaceburg could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Lakers average 3.1 goals per game. Wallaceburg forced the Flyers goalie Morreau to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Alvinston incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Lakers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeff Nolfo was ejected from the game.
