Mooretown penalty kill dominates in 6-2 defeat of KingsvilleKingsville Arena Sun, Nov 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Mooretown Flags were able to defeat the Kingsville Comets, 6-2. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:20 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Mooretown was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Flags had been spending in the box. Mooretown made Comets' netminders to work in net, racking up 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Nathan Crankshaw made three stops and Marcus Rees made 26. The Flags' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Mooretown averages 3.5 goals per contest. The Flags were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 13 man advantages. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Mooretown was helped by Frankie White, who had one goal. White scored 14:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mooretown. Jordan Orth provided the assist. Others who scored for Mooretown included Riley Roberts, who had one and Calab Harse and Mike Burns, who each put in two. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Jeff Sit, who had one, Dan Lumley, who had two, and Jeff Schroeter, who had three. Kingsville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Comets had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Kingsville was helped by Zack Brown, who racked up one goal. Brown scored 1:58 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mooretown. Ryan Desjarlais assisted on the tally. Daniel Beaudion also scored for Kingsville. More assists for Kingsville came via Justin Parker, who had one. Braden Palocz rejected 25 shots on goal for the Flags. Mooretown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and White was ejected from the game. The Comets registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For Kingsville, Steven Spada was ejected from the game.
