Wheatley falls to Alvinston in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Brooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Nov 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alvinston Flyers pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Wheatley Sharks on a clutch goal by Jake McPhail. Alvinston was led by McPhail, who finished with one goal. McPhail scored 3:23 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Alvinston. Ryan Fraser provided the assist. The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Alvinston could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Alvinston also got points from Joe Archer, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Dylan Lightfoot, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Alvinston came via Connor MacKinnon and Josh Moore, who contributed one a piece. Wheatley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their four power plays. The Sharks were helped by Jon Woelk, who grabbed one goal. Woelk scored 6:58 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brendon Anger assisted on the tally. Wheatley additionally got points from Anger, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Kyle Quick and Eric Rivard, who each chipped in one. James Morreau rejected 27 shots on goal for Alvinston. For the Flyers, Kirk Dorman was ejected from the game. Marc Tremblay recorded 25 saves for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
