Belle River uses shootout to best Blenheim, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Belle River Canadiens defeated the Blenheim Blades in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Blenheim got a shootout goal from Tyler Clarke. Belle River's other shootout goal was scored by Chris DiNatale.

The Canadiens overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Belle River was down 4-3 after a goal by the Blades' Justin Rossignol at 13:56 in the third period. The Canadiens tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by DiNatale at 17:47 in the third period.

Belle River got the win behind a great game by Branden Larocque, who had two goals and two assists. Larocque scored the first of his two goals short handed at 16:26 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Canadiens played down a man on Guy Levesque's head contact. Larocque's next tally short handed made the score 3-2 Belle River with 14:02 left in the third period. DiNatale picked up the assist.

Belle River kept Blenheim's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Vanderpol made 29 saves on 34 shots. The Canadiens were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Belle River also got points from DiNatale, who also had two goals and one assist. In addition, Belle River received assists from Billy Eansor and Josh Synnott, who contributed one a piece.

The Blades stifled Belle River's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Blenheim's offense rang up 35 shots on the Canadiens' net.

The Blades were helped by Trevor Sparks, who tallied one goal. Sparks scored on the power play 5:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Blenheim. Blenheim had gained a power play chance when Jordan Taylor was whistled for holding. Aidan Wiebenga provided the assist. Blenheim additionally got points from Clarke, who also registered one goal and one assist and Rossignol, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Zack Horvath also scored for Blenheim. More assists for Blenheim came via Taylor Phillips, who had two and Cam Aitken and Jarrod Oliphant, who each chipped in one.

Belle River's Zakk Olvin stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Canadiens registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. The Blades incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
