Wallaceburg downs Dresden in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Sam Jasmin gave the Wallaceburg Lakers a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Dresden Kings when he scored 4:28 into the extra period.

Jordan Durstin and Jasmin provided the spark for Wallaceburg, combining for two goals and four assists. Durstin racked up one goal and three assists and Jasmin also notched one goal and one assist.

The Lakers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 41 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:30 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Wallaceburg also got points from Jeff Nolfo, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Jasmin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Bobby Domin as well. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Mike Myers and Jordan Eagan, who contributed one a piece.

Dresden racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Kings had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Dresden stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Kings' offense rang up 41 shots on the Lakers' net.

Dresden was helped by Macks Holmes, who finished with two goals. Holmes scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Kings had gotten the advantage when Wallaceburg's Myers was sent off for slashing. Alex Ritchie picked up the assist. Holmes' next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 15:57 left in the second period. Ritchie assisted on the tally. Dresden additionally got points from Ritchie, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Wade Esselman also scored for Dresden. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Jeff Vanrabaeys, John Montgomery, Taylor Sisson, Jeremy Griffore, Cam Ross, and Andrew France, who each chipped in one.

Devine Cove rejected 37 shots on goal for the Lakers. Wallaceburg registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Lucais Meyskens and Domin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Dresden's starting goalie, Kaylobe Derynck, made 20 saves and finished with the otl before he was taken out in favor of Brent Paxton, who stopped zero shots. The Kings registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Clements was ejected from the game.
